Dominican This stunning island was called by the aboriginal Tainos as Adamanay, during the English conquest was discovered and named by Christopher Columbus Saône on his second voyage in May of 1494 to honor the first governor of the island named by the Michel called Da Cuneo, a native of Savona, Italy (part of Liguria, northwest of the country). In fact SAVONA Saône and maintain a relationship and Twin Cities, and current power plant was a gift from Saona Savona!
The island has places interesting as the cave of Cotubanamá in memory of one of the native pride of the region in pre-Columbian era, streams and a picturesque village called MANO JUAN, which serves as the principal town of the island where the fishermen and traders from doing business between them and visitors.
Saona is a reserve natural protected by the Dominican State and is part of Parque Nacional del Este. The waters surrounding the island reflects a diversity of wildlife from birds to a variety of tropical fish's own environment. It is excellent for diving and enjoy the underwater life.
